I’m Quin Mann Weil
I’m an author, a peer counselor specializing in eating disorders, an ice skater, a dancer, an artist and a future therapist.
Quin Mann Weil, a native of Los Angeles, California, is a high school senior, athlete, artist, and mental health advocate who loves working with children. Quin has used her own experience with an eating disorder—and her recovery from it—to help others who are making the difficult transition from treatment to recovery. She does this through peer counseling young adults with eating disorders as well as through her new book Breaking the Strings: A Guide to Recovery After Residential Treatment for Eating Disorders.
Quin was treated for anorexia nervosa when she was thirteen and spent four months in a residential treatment center. Quin’s experience there was a turning point in her recovery. Since then she has managed to transform the trauma and pain she experienced into power and the ability to help others overcome their own pain and suffering. Her efforts are always informed by compassion, empathy, and hope. Quin believes that her recovery from disordered eating is her greatest achievement to date.
Quin’s work as an intern with Dr. Jaye Azoff, CEO, Founder, and Clinical Director of Basix taught her a great deal about the clinical treatment of eating disorders and the importance of providing meal coaching and support to eating disordered patients.
Quin has been on ice skates since the age of three and has competed since she was eight years old. She took a three-year break during the pandemic to help care for her grandmother, who was ill, and also tend to her own recovery. Since 2017, Quin has won over 16 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 1 bronze in individual competitive skating. She placed first in the 2017 ISI Division Worlds Championship. In her first competition after the pandemic—and her own treatment for an eating disorder— Quin placed first in the 2024 California State Games. Most recently, she placed second and sixth in the ISI World Championship.
Quin has a passion for helping children. She is a camp counselor (and a member of the teen board) at Wise Readers to Leaders, a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the literacy and achievement gap for underserved children. Quin is also a counselor at Camp Harmony, a sleepaway camp that helps inspire and empower children who are experiencing poverty to develop positive self-esteem. She is a certified ISI Junior Coach and uses that credential to teach figure skating to children.
In her “free time” Quin practices self-care by dancing, drawing, and taking occasional nature walks. She has filled over fifteen sketch books with recovery-oriented art. Quin is excited to share her experience, strength, and hope with others in her upcoming book Breaking the Strings: A Guide to Recovery After Residential Treatment for Eating Disorders.
